INDONESIA

The Republic of Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world, and consists of more than 17,000 islands. It belongs to the list of mega-diverse countries given its vast uninhabited areas with high biodiversity. Indonesia has numerous influences from other nations that sought to exploit their natural resources, including Arab traders and European powers such as the Netherlands.

The service sector is the largest economic sector in the country, followed by industry and agriculture. However, the agricultural industry is the nation's largest employer. Indonesia's major industries include oil, textile, mining and natural gas. Its main agricultural products are palm oil, rice, tea, coffee, spices and rubber.

The Indonesian population is highly diversified in ethnic, linguistic and religious terms. Although it is the country with the largest Muslim population worldwide, its religious pluralism has become part of the national identity. The motto of the nation is, in fact, "Unity in diversity." Some of the key values in the country are respect for the elderly, the total acceptance of hierarchical structures and the search for the harmonious and collective development of society.

A curious fact: As a Spanish speaker, you will have a great advantage when going to Indonesia: Indonesia reads like Spanish, so except for one or two letters, you can pass as a native speaker.
